Duke Street is a laid-back project formed by a group of experienced local musicians who share a mutual appreciation for black music.

The band made its debut appearance last November at Johnny B's. The group plays next at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at Avalon Bar and Grill, 105 W. Valley View Road, Talent.

The lineup is guitarist Scotty Rogers, drummer Kent Clinkenbeard, keyboardist Allen Crutcher, bassist Joe Cohoon and slide guitarist and vocalist Johnny Hauschild.

Their repertoire includes old school R&B and blues by Ray Charles, Howlin' Wolf, Willie Dixon, Solomon Burke and others.

"We can't play it the way they did originally, but we can play with a lot of respect," Crutcher says.

The cover to the show at the Avalon is $5. Call 541-512-8864.
