The Ashland band — vocalist Pat O'Scannell, guitarist Kevin Conness, keyboardist Don Harriss and drummer Sandy Metcalf-Lowry — chooses songs that aren't "AM radio standards," O'Scannell says.

The bands' sets date back to Procol Harum's "A Whiter Shade of Pale" and feature songs by artists such as Peter Gabriel, Joan Armatrading, Frank Zappa, Lou Reed and even Sheryl Crow.

Cover Art started rehearsing more than a year ago but did not start picking up gigs until a few months ago. The quartet will play at 9:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at Alex's Plaza Restaurant, 35 N. Main St., Ashland. The cover is $3. Call 541-482-8818.
