The Kiwanis Club of Ashland has recognized Forrest Kollar as its December 2011, Student of the Month. Kollar is the son of Geann and Joseph Kollar. He has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.992, including many advanced placement classes.

Kollar is very active in sports programs. He has participated on the water polo and swim teams all four years, and was captain of the swim team two years. His water polo teams won the state championship three of the four years and took second place the other year. He was named two-time conference MVP and state MVP this year.

Kollar also participated on the track-and-field and tennis teams for two seasons. He has been a participant in the Ashland High School intramural sports program, most recently as one of the final teams in the dodge ball tournament. He and several of his friends won second place in this year's talent contest with a whimsical gymnastics routine.

Kollar was on a panel of students who spoke with freshman about getting through high school drug- and alcohol-free.

Kollar has found time for other activities too. He has contributed to the community by participating in Relay for Life, AFSO fundraisers, water polo camps for kids, and he worked at the YMCA as a swim instructor and camp counselor.

He plans to follow a pre-med curriculum in college, and hopes to attend the University of Oregon. He also has some interest in certain colleges in Southern California.

A senior student from the Ashland High School is honored each month during the school year. Each Student of the Month receives an award certificate and $50 in cash. During the month of May 2012, two of the nine monthly winners for the current school year will be further honored with a $1,000 college scholarship.
