LA GRANDE — Southern Oregon battled back from a double-digit deficit in the final two minutes to force overtime, but No. 23 Eastern Oregon prevailed, 88-82, in Cascade Conference men's basketball Friday.

The loss drops Southern Oregon's record to 9-5 overall and 2-1 in the CC. Eastern Oregon is 9-3 and 2-1.

Eric Thompson led SOU with 23 points and 16 rebounds. Taylor Roos scored 12 points, and Terriel Thomas added 10 for the Raiders. Jeff Bush dished seven assists.

Four Mountaineers reached double-figures, led by Trent Roos' 17.

Following a close first half and a 38-38 score at the break, the Mountaineers scored the first five points out of the break, and Jeff Ranstrom's jumper stretched the EOU advantage to nine points at 50-41 less than six minutes into the half.

Bush made a layup to end the Eastern run and start an eight-point SOU streak that pulled the Raiders within one with 10 minutes to play.

Southern Oregon hung within two at 56-54 with just under eight minutes remaining, but the Mountaineers used a 13-2 run to take their largest lead of the game when Peterson hit a layup to make it 69-56 with 4:11 to go.

The Mountaineers matched their 13-point advantage with 2:49 remaining after a pair of Roos free throws made it 76-63.

A Jordan Highland layup sparked a furious SOU rally that saw the Raiders score 17 points in just over two minutes to tie it at 80-80 and force overtime.

The Raiders closed the second half on a 17-4 run. Sam Osofsky, Roos and Kyle Tedder all made 3-pointers in the final minute, and Thomas' layup with eight seconds remaining tied it.

Eastern Oregon scored the first five points of the overtime period as SOU's shooting went cold. The Raiders' lone points were two Highland free throws.

The Raiders visit College of Idaho tonight.

Women's Basketball

At La Grande, ninth-ranked Eastern Oregon shot 60 percent in the second half as the Mountaineers pulled away for an 80-51 win over Southern Oregon in Cascade Conference play.

Krysten Copeland finished with 12 points to lead the Raiders (10-4, 1-2 CC), as SOU struggled to hit only 27.6 percent (16-for-58) of its shots.

Dominique Johnson scored 18 points and dished out six assists to lead Eastern Oregon (10-2, 3-0).

The Raiders held EOU to 37.5 percent shooting (12 of 32) in the first half, but SOU only made 7 of 28 in the opening half as the Mountaineers took a 33-24 lead at the break.

The Raiders visit College of Idaho today.
