David Michael Grubbs, 23, was killed by a blade at about 5:35 p.m. Nov. 19 while walking on the Central Ashland Bike Path near the Hunter Park tennis courts from his job at the Ashland Shop 'n Kart.

Investigators said Grubbs didn't appear to make any defensive moves in the attack, and that his wallet and money were left in his pocket after he was killed. Police do not believe this was a targeted act and have followed “hundreds of leads,” including people seen on video surveillance cameras, as well as theories that the attacker or attackers may have been performing a gang initiation or been involved with violent online video games. The investigation is ongoing

“We're going to need more information in order to solve this,” Ashland police Chief Terry Holderness said.

A Crime Stopper award fund has been set up. Anyone with information is asked to call Ashland police at 541-482-5211 or leave a tip at 541-552-2333.
