Howard R. Nelson, 96, of Medford Ore., passed away October 20, 2011, at his home. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa, August 12, 1915, to Elsie Murry and John W. Nelson, the youngest of four children.

In his early career, Howard worked as a draftsman. On August 6, 1940, he married Helen Lovey B, they moved to California, in 1945, where he worked for Boeing and North American on the Appollo Project. He retitred in 1970 as a superviosor. Howard and Helen moved to Oregon in 1971.

In his early years Howard played minor league baseball, a game he enjoyed until he died. He loved playing cards, reading books on tape, his family, his friends and his neighbors.

He was proceeded in death by Helen, his beloved wife of 50 years; his beloved companion, Joan Ives; and his stepson, Gaylord DeVaul. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Ramona DeVaul; and his grandchildren, John N DeVaul, Andria DeVaul Goss, Michele DeVaul; and four grandchildren. He is loved and will be missed.
