Ashland Kiwanis has recognized Nicole Shulters as its Student of the Month for September. Shulters is the daughter of Susan Rugh-Shulters and Dan Shulters. A senior student from the Ashland High School is honored each month during the school year.

Shulters has held several leadership positions during her four-year AHS career, including student body co-president during her senior year and Fresh Start counselor during her junior and senior years.

She has been very active on the Homecoming Committee, helping to pull together all the festivities in a short, three-week period. Shulters also belongs to the Sparrow Club and the Gay Straight Alliance. Shulters participated in the talent show and winter arts festival. Sports have also been a major experience during her school career. She participated on the varsity track and field team all four years.

Shulters' future interests include a college career, possibly focused in the areas of art and music.

Each Student of the Month receives an award certificate and a $100 savings bond. During the month of May, 2012, two of the nine monthly winners for the current school year will be further honored with a $1,000 Tommy Laird Kiwanis College Scholarship.
