August 11, 1931 - Sept. 28, 2011
Candace D. Steele passed away in her sleep at the age of 80. She is survived by her brother, Bright Dorn Dornblaser; her daughters, Danae, Heidi and Heather Steele; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Charles Steele.
We remember Candace for her long-time commitment to Quaker ideals, her passionate support of equal rights for lesbians and gays, her advocacy for natural childbirth as a nurse and childbirth educator, her work as a marriage, family and child counselor, and her love of animals and the wilderness. In her professional and volunteer pursuits, Candace consistently found ways to care for others with compassion and dedication. We will miss her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, Candace's family would like to suggest donations to either of the following organizations: PFLAG www.pflag.org, or The Nature Conservancy www.nature.org.
A memorial service is being planned for the summer of 2012 in Ashland, Ore.
