Thomas J. Hawes, 68, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2011, at Providence Medford Medical Center. Tom was born in Bay City, Mich., on July 25, 1943. Tom served our country for 33 years in the Air Force, and was stationed throughout Europe, the United States, and the Middle East. He served in the Vietnam War, and after he retired, our government requested him back into service from August 1990 to May 1994, to serve in Operation Desert Shield / Storm.
Tom is survived by his wife, Brenda, of Medford, Ore.; sister, Heather Abrams, of Bay City, Mich.; brother, Timothy Hawes, of Cape Coral, Fla.; and children, Burgandy King, of Phoenix, Ariz.; Laura Hawes, of Columbus, Ohio; Todd J. Hawes, of Marion, Ohio; and Douglas R. Hawes, of Fort Meyers, Fla.; stepchildren, Paul Calhoun, of Tularosa, N.M., Gina Calhoun, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Sheri Sherman, of Medford, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial on Friday, September 16, 2011. Please meet at 9:00 a.m., at Conger-Morris Funeral Home, 767 S. Riverside Drive, Medford, Ore. At 9:15 a.m., a motorcycle escort will lead the procession from Conger-Morris to the Eagle Point National VA Cemetery, where Tom will be sent off with full military honors.
The escort will be comprised of the men from the Missing in America Project. Their main function is to escort unclaimed veterans' remains to their resting place. We thank them for their service to the military personnel who died fighting for our freedom.
