E. Vera Buchanan, 89, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2011. She was born in Cheshire, England, and immigrated to the United States in 1954.
Vera and her first husband settled in Chicago, where she was active in a number of organizations which included Daughters of the British Empire and BPOE. Vera and her second husband moved to the Rogue Valley in 1973. Again, Vera became active in many local organizations. Her love of the arts led her to volunteer for thirty-five years with the the Oregon Shakespeare Festival Tudor Guild. She was an active member of the Medford Symphony Guild. Vera's interest in learning led her to be one of the founding members of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. She took classes every chance she got on subjects ranging from technical science to photography, and of course, the arts. Vera was an active deacon at First Presbyterian Church, and a member since 1976.
She is survived by her daughter, Krystyna Ochwat; granddaughters, Krystyna, Yvette (Tighe), and Lisa; grandchildren, Julia, Gavin, and Samantha; and stepson, Jeff Wilson.
Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 85 South Holly, on Thursday, May 19, at 11: 00 a.m. The family requests that donations be made to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival; First Presbyterian Church, Medford; and American Cancer Society.
