Marilyn Frances (Giles) Nordquist, age 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 1, 2011, at Gritman Medical Center, in Moscow, Idaho. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on May 25, 1930, to Frances and Lawrence Giles.
Marilyn began her college education at the University of Utah, and when her family moved to the Berkeley area, she transferred to the University of California at Berkeley. Marilyn graduated in 1953, with a degree in elementary education and went to work as a kindergarten teacher.
She met Robert Nordquist at a Valentine's Day dance, and they were married on August 29, 1954. Marilyn and Bob had their first child, Gregg, while living in the Bay Area, Calif. In 1957, they moved to Bishop, Calif., and their second child, Nora, was born. For over 35 years, Marilyn and Bob lived in Bishop, and Marilyn taught first grade.
After retirement, they moved to Ashland, Ore., and Marilyn became a volunteer with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. To be closer to their grandkids, they moved up to Moscow, Idaho, in 2005.
Marilyn is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bob, of Moscow, Idaho; her brothers, Roger Giles, John Giles, and Lawrence Giles Jr.; her son, Gregg Nordquist; daughter-in-law, Anne; grandson, Sean, of Jakarta, Indonesia; and daughter, Nora Moser; son-in-law, Dan Moser; and granddaughters, Kelsey, Haley, Jenna, and Zoe, of Colton, Wash.
