Facing a do-or-die service game in a pressure-packed third set, Hanna Greenberg and River Davis on Tuesday did what they've done all year.

Ashland's fabulous freshmen won the last three games to defeat Lydia Kimball and Kami Goodson in a thrilling No. 1 doubles match Tuesday, helping the Ashland girls tennis team deliver a resounding 8-0 nonconference victory over North Medford at Hunter Park.

The 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 comeback win improved the Grizzlies' top doubles tandem to 11-0 overall with two matches to go in the regular season.

"They're very aggressive and they're very strong," Ashland head coach Kim Rooklyn said of Greenberg and Davis. "They're both very strong hitters — lots of top spin, lots of variety in shots — and they can lob well. They're awesome at the net. And, they communicate really well together as a team."

The Grizzlies also got another stellar performance out of No. 1 singles player Laurel Sager, a comeback win from No. 2 singles player Emily Minasian and a straight-set win by their No. 2 doubles team, Meris B and Danit Hubbell.

Sager trounced Julie Rhodes, 6-1, 6-0, to improve to 8-3 overall. She has won four of her six Midwestern League matches and will likely earn one of the conference's four seeds when the district tournament pairings are announced next Tuesday.

Minasian overcame a first-set letdown to defeat Cathy Khoshabeth, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, and improve to 7-5 overall.

B and Hubbell, both seniors, continued their strong season (8-1 overall) by dispatching Camille Kimball and Isabella Duncan, 6-2, 6-2.

At No. 3 doubles, Ashland juniors Jennifer Fine and Halie Hanes improved to 12-0 by fighting off Julia Ribeiro and Rebekah Diaz, 7-5, 6-3.
