The Rogue Valley Symphony has announced that three of its musicians, the Schoenard Trio, were selected to compete in the junior division of the 2011 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.

The Schoenard Trio members are pianist Ashley Hoe, violinist Eleanora Schaer, and cellist Chas Barnard. All three musicians attend Ashland High School as well as play in the Rogue Valley Symphony and the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon.

The trio submitted a video audition to the Fischoff Competition and will travel to South Bend, Ind., and the University of Notre Dame on May 13-15, 2011 to compete.

The Fischoff competition is the largest chamber music competition in the world. Each year an average of 125 groups representing 22 nationalities are invited to compete in two divisions, junior (18 and younger) and senior (18-35). The ensembles in the competition range in size from three to six performers. More information can be found at www.fischoff.org.

The Schoenard Trio was formed a year ago at Ashland High School to perform at the Oregon Music Educators Association District 8 Solo & Ensemble Festival. They have continued to study and perform together throughout the year with Tom and Cynthia Stauffer of Ashland.

The Schoenard Trio will be performing works of Beethoven, Schumann, and Bernhard Heiden for the competition. The trio will be performing locally before the Fischoff competition on April 17 at 7 p.m. in Medford at the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater "Stars on Stage" concert. Admission is free. They will also perform at the afternoon convocation concert in Ashland at the SOU Music Recital Hall at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 29. In addition they will be playing at the Rogue Valley Manor in Medford and the Mountain Meadows Community in Ashland within the next month.
