The church group that collects the most canned food items per capita for ACCESS Inc. will win 30 free tickets to the Newsboys concert May 12 at the Medford Armory.

The Christian music group issued the challenge to area youth groups to help feed the growing number of hungry individuals and families, according to a press release.

The winning church group also will receive a pizza party at the concert and the chance to meet the Newsboys.

Donations of non-perishable food items can be dropped off at ACCESS Inc., at 3630 Aviation Way, Medford, by Friday, May 6. Donations should include church name, number of youth participating and total number of food items collected. The winning youth group will be determined and contacted by May 9.

Foods rich in protein are particularly needed, including peanut butter, canned tuna, canned meat and beans. Rice, pasta and cold and hot cereals are also suggested.

ACCESS Inc. provides food for more than 3,200 families each month, and that number continues to rise as the economy forces more people to seek assistance.

The Newsboys' "Born Again Experience" Tour with Kutless and Disciple is sponsored by Compassion, with the message of "A Night for the City to Serve the City." For more information about the challenge and the concert, go to www.facebook.com/LMGConcerts.

A staple in Christian music for over 20 years, the Newsboys have earned six Dove Awards and four Grammy nominations.
