PORTLAND — Southern Oregon senior Alex Waroff had a strong day in the decathlon at the Mt. Hood Multi-Event Meet on Monday.

PORTLAND — Southern Oregon senior Alex Waroff had a strong day in the decathlon at the Mt. Hood Multi-Event Meet on Monday.

Waroff, an NAIA All-American last year, sits in third place with 3,320 points and is just 19 points behind leader Bryant Sentman of Oregon Tech, the NAIA runner-up last year. SOU freshman Josh Wilson is in ninth place out of 17 competitors with 2,629 points.

Waroff's day was highlighted by a time of 50.30 in the 400, which was good for 801 points. The time is also the fastest in the conference this year.

Waroff also went 20-10 in the long jump, 5-09.75 in the high jump, 35-06.74 in the shot put and had a time of 11.68 in the 100.

The multi-event meet wraps up today.

SOU's PERRY EARNS HONORS — Southern Oregon junior Max Perry has been named the Cascade Conference field athlete of the week.

Perry earned the accolade after an impressive outing on Saturday at the Chico State Twilight Meet.

The transfer from Lane Community College moved up to second in the conference rankings in both the shot put and the discus.

He finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 50-00.50 and placed seventh in the discus with a throw of 147-01.

Perry rounded out his day with a third-place finish in the hammer with a distance of 168-06.

OSU's DUNN PAC-10 PLAYER OF WEEK — At Corvallis, Oregon State junior infielder Ryan Dunn was named the Pacific-10 Conference player of the week, commissioner Larry Scott announced Monday.

Dunn had an outstanding week for the Beavers as they went 4-0, sweeping No. 5 Arizona State for the first time since 1966. It was Oregon State's first-ever sweep of the Sun Devils in Corvallis and pushed the Beavers to No. 9 in the Baseball America rankings.

Dunn had three multiple-hit games during the week, going 6-for-14 with three doubles, a home run and six RBI, all coming during the series with ASU.

Dunn is hitting .292 on the year and has 14 RBIs. In league play, he is batting .409 with nine RBIs. Dunn's slugging percentage of .818 ranks third in the Pac-10.
