Billy Hansen went 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and Ethan Schlecht and Brent Hegdahl both were 2-for-2 to help the Grizzlies (3-0) win the opener 13-1 in five innings. Senior pitcher Brady Thomas struck out four without a walk in four innings to improve to 2-0.

Ashland dominated the second game as well, 16-3 in five, with catcher Jake Scarminach going 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs. AJ Adams was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Hegdahl was 2-for-2 with three RBIs.

Ashland next hosts Springfield on Saturday.

Prep softball

Junior pitcher Savannah Williams had two solid outings and got plenty of support from Ashland's batting lineup as the Grizzlies won their first two games of the Central Oregon Tournament, 11-3 over Summit and 11-1 over La Pine, Monday at Bend.

Williams had one strikeout and three walks while holding Summit to one run in five innings, then limited La Pine to one run on three hits in another efficient five-inning effort.

Nicole Lehman was 2-for-5 at the plate with a two-run triple in the seventh to help the Grizzlies (2-1) put away Summit.

Ashland's Rose Marston was 2-for-5 with an RBI against Summit and 3-for-3 with a double, a triple and two RBIs against La Pine.
