Our dear friend, Billy Rose, 58, passed on January 30th, after a long illness, followed soon by his constant companion and his joy, little Bobbin. Billy was an artist and worked primarily in fabric, his inimitable genius ranging from the outrageous in costume design (those head dresses!) to the sedate in his work as a master tailor.

Originally from Los Angeles, Billy and his work was known in theaters from Portland to Ashland. While all that glitters may not be gold, it was likely the work of Billy Rose. He was one of the '70's generation of Ashlanders, an utterly unique human being. Most recently, he tailored at Nimbus, and was quietly but intimately involved with many proms, weddings and events of note.

He is missed by a close circle of dear friends, the community of artists in Ashland and Portland, and by townspeople who may not have known his name, but on seeing him with Bobbin curled up in his leather jacket, knew that they were looking at something very special.

There was no one like Billy Rose. His last days were gentle and full of love. Our loss is great and deeply heartfelt. Friends of Billy will be invited to share remembrances and stories at a memorial later this Spring.
