Gen (Geneva) Hurst Sexton, was born October 31, 1926, in Sumter, S.C., to William Ansley Hurst and Aline DuBose Hurst. She later had two brothers, William Ansley (Sonny) Hurst, Jr. and Russell Charles Hurst. She grew up in Sumter, graduated from Edmunds High School and attended Columbia College,in Columbia, S.C. Gen was a member of Trinity Methodist Church in Sumter for many years. From an early age she adored animals, especially her childhood pet cat, Josey. She later grew to love dogs and had several of them during her lifetime, the last one her beloved springer spaniel, Lance.

She married Richard Warren (Dick) Sexton on February 22, 1945, and raised three sons; David, Stephen, and Jon. Her husband was an Air Force officer, so Gen, as she came to prefer being known, lived an exciting and rewarding life travelling the world and to many locations in the U.S., with assignments to England, the Philippines, and Okinawa. She loved the military officer's wife's lifestyle and raising her three sons.

After the Air Force, she settled in Oregon, with her final beautiful home in Medford. She had a rich and rewarding life, leaving behind many friends from her Air Force days as well as many friends in Medford. She succumbed to cancer on January 14, 2011, dying peacefully at home, as she preferred.

A service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2011, at Perl Funeral Home in Medford, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please provide donations to the Casey Eye Institute in Portland, Ore., or your local Humane Society to help with the ongoing care of animals in need.

Gen leaves behind her husband, Dick; her sons, David and Stephen; her brothers, Sonny and Russel; sister-in-law, Shirley; grandson, Jeffrey David Sexton; five nephews; and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jon; and her daughter, Linda Yvonne.
