Frank Hirst, resident of Ashland from 1988 to 2004, passed away December 25, 2010, in Rockville, Md. Mr. Hirst was born in Peterborough, N.H., April 8, 1921.

He attended Harvard University before serving in the U.S. Army in WWII. He married his high school sweetheart, Anna Arnell, in 1926, and acquired an M.B.A. degree from Columbia University. His career in marketing research took the family to Neenah, Wis. Upon retirement, he and Anna travelled the country before resettling in Ashland. Mr. Hirst was an ardent environmentalist and hiker. His wife, Anna, died in 2002. He is survived by son, Brian, of Harpswell, Maine; and daughters, Kathryn, of Rockville, Md. and Janet, of San Rafael, Calif.
