The Grizzlies struggled against Henley's zone defense and never got their shots to fall as the Hornets brought down Ashland 38-24 at Ashland High School.

"They played a zone defense on us and we didn't have the confidence to shoot," said Ashland coach Emily Brookins.

"On offense, they (Henley) were really patient, waiting until they had the right shot."

The Grizzlies (2-3) square off against Summit today at 5 p.m. in Day 2 of the event.

Allison Shulenberger led the Grizzlies with six points and five rebounds with Willie Michiels grabbing six boards.

Rylee Carleton scored 11 points for the Hornets.

ASHLAND 71, HENLEY 58 — Junior guard Billy Hansen went off for 36 points and Ashland sank 14 3-pointers in the semifinals of the Ashland Rotary Hoops Classic at Mountain Avenue Gym.

The Grizzlies (4-2) will face Crescent Valley, which defeated Summit in the other semifinal, in today's championship at 3 p.m.

Ashland used its transition game to outscore Henley 22-11 in the second quarter after trailing by five at the end of the opening period.

Hansen scored 18 points in each half and knocked down 10 3-pointers. Jake McCoy, a junior guard, had a breakout game for the Grizzlies with a season-high 19 points.

Crescent Valley beat Summit 51-38 and has won three in a row since starting the season 0-2.
