Gas prices have jumped back above an average of $3 a gallon in Oregon as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches.

Oregon's statewide average at the pump, $3.005 a gallon, is the highest it's been since August while the national average is the highest it's been since May.

In the Medford-Ashland area, average prices today were $3.038 a gallon.

So far this year, the national average has peaked at around $2.91 and the highest point for Oregon's average was about $3.04.

The Oregon-Idaho chapter of AAA says the national average for a gallon of regular gained four cents this week to $2.89.

Even though gas prices are about 25 cents higher than a year ago, AAA projects the number of Americans traveling for the holiday will increase 11.4 percent from last year.
