A woman suffered a gunshot wound Monday evening in a downtown Ashland hotel in what police were investigating as a suicide attempt, authorities said.

The victim apparently was alone in a room inside the Ashland Springs Hotel, 212 E. Main St., when she suffered a single gunshot wound, which police at the scene described only as non-fatal. A revolver was found in the room, police said.

The woman was taken by ambulance to the Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, and no update on her condition was available.

A hotel front-desk clerk notified police about the incident at 7:35 p.m., and police were still investigating the case late Monday.
