Ashland City Band: The Ashland City Band will open its annual summer concert series at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 17, at the Butler Band Shell in Ashland's Lithia Park. The 70-member band will perform show tunes, marches, standard classics and original works. The band will play every Thursday evening through Aug. 12. slightly stoopid and steel pulse at britt: Reggae, rock and psychedelia group Slightly Stoopid will perform at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 18, at the Britt Amphitheater in Jacksonville. Call for conductor: The Southern Oregon Concert Band seeks a new conductor to lead its performances around the Rogue Valley. Interviews will be held Saturday, June 19. The band's season runs from September through June, with about six concerts per year. Rehearsals are at 7 p.m. Tuesdays at Ashland Middle School. Benefit Concert: Six Women Who Love to Sing will host a benefit concert for Kids Unlimited at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 19, at the Medford Congregational Church, 1801 E. Ballet and dance: The Medford Civic Ballet and students of the Dance Arts Academy will present excerpts of the happier scenes from "Alice in Wonderland" at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 19, in the auditorium at South Medford High School, 805 S. The grant & Matheny duo: The Siskiyou Institute will present pianist Darrell Grant and flugelhorn player Dmitri Matheny at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 25, at the Old Siskiyou Barn in Ashland. The duo blends chamber music with American jazz and explores a range of pieces by classic and contemporary composers. Grant and Matheny debuted in 1996 at Carnegie Hall in New York City and have performed around the country. Tickets cost $20, $15 for Institute members and $5 for students. Grant and Matheny will host a jazz improvisation workshop — open to all instruments — at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26, at the barn. Firesign Theatre began as a syndicated radio show and went on to release many albums with Columbia Records, including "Waiting for the Electrician or Someone Like Him," "How Can You Be in Two Places at Once When You're Not Anywhere At All," "Don't Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me the Pliers" and "I Think We're All Bozos on This Bus."
