The Kiwanis Club of Ashland has recognized Arthur Lawniczak as its May Student of the Month.
The Kiwanis Club of Ashland has recognized Arthur Lawniczak as its May Student of the Month. Lawniczak is the son of Lori and Jeff Lawniczak.
Lawniczak has taken various AP courses during his high school career. He has been on the Speech and Debate team for two years, the Model UN team for three years, and he has been the Editor-In-Chief of the AHS Rogue Newspaper.
Lawniczak won the Model UN Speaker Award for two years. He was the Interact Club Co-President for one year, and he was an SOU Academy Counselor for two years. His cumulative GPA is 3.900. (Correction: Lawniczak's grade-point average has been corrected in this article.)
During his four years at AHS, Lawniczak has been very active in sporting activities. He was the ultimate frisbee champion for three years, on the Varsity Tennis team for three years, and on the track and field and bowling teams for one year. Lawniczak was also co-founder/co-president of the cycle club, and he was the dance host for Rumble in the Jungle. As an active swimmer, he is a volunteer lifeguard at Emigrant Lake, and he is a lifeguard at the Emigrant Lake water slides.
Included among his community service activities was volunteering in Mexico during the summer of his sophomore year.
Lawniczak loves music and is an accomplished piano player and composer, having played the piano for ten years. He has played the bass guitar for six years and the guitar for eight years.
Lawniczak is undecided about which college or university he will attend, but his preference is either Drexel University in Philadelphia, Penn., or Seattle University, in Seattle, Wash.
A senior student from the Ashland High School is honored each month during the school year. Each Student of the Month receives an award certificate and a $50 savings bond. During the month of May, 2010, two of the nine monthly winners for the current school year will be further honored with a $1,000 college scholarship. This is called the "Tommy Laird Kiwanis Scholarship".
The Ashland Kiwanis Club is focused on supporting learning and leadership opportunities for the youth of our community through local fundraising and volunteerism.
