PORTLAND — The Southern Oregon softball team dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 decision to Corban on Friday afternoon in the first game of the Cascade Conference Tournament at Delta Park.

The comeback victory was the first of two on the day for Corban (24-21), which went on to stun fourth-ranked Concordia 5-1 in the first game of the three-game championship series. Games two and three, if necessary, will be played this afternoon, with the series winner advancing to the NAIA national tournament.

Southern Oregon fought to within five outs of advancing to the championship round before blowing a 1-0 lead and finishing its season 16-23.

Corban scored the tying run in the sixth and the game-winner with two outs in the seventh on Liane Dehart's RBI single to right-center.

SOU junior Karri Johnson gave the Warriors all they could handle, holding the No. 2 seeds hitless through four innings and giving up just one hit through five.

Southern Oregon took a 1-0 lead in the first on a run-scoring single by senior Bailey Price that drove in Meghan Laughlin.

In the sixth, Corban tied the game on Stephanie Nippert's RBI single.

Laughlin went 2-for-3 to lead the Raiders, and Price, Irene Barrantes and Sarah Wharton added one hit apiece.

Johnson surrendered four hits with four strikeouts and three walks in 6 2/3 innings.

Makenzie Marchbanks held the Raiders to one run on five hits. She struck out two and walked two.

Girls Tennis

ASHLAND 8, MAZAMA 0 — At Ashland, the Grizzlies swept every match in straight sets, including three 6-0, 6-0 routs, to finish the regular season 6-0 in District 4 at Hunter Park.

Two of the Grizzlies' shutouts came in doubles play, where Ashland's four teams won 48 of 50 games.

Ashland hosts the district tournament Monday. The Grizzlies' No. 1 singles player, Lara Soliz Urquizu is seeded fourth, and their top doubles tandem of Chloe Deckwar and Katie Patton is seeded No. 1.
