The ninth annual Ashland Independent Film Festival returns Thursday to Monday, April 8-12, with film screenings at the Varsity Theatre and the Historic Ashland Armory.

The ninth annual Ashland Independent Film Festival returns Thusday to Monday, April 8-12, with film screenings at the Varsity Theatre and the Historic Ashland Armory. The festival will be a five-day showcase of 81 independent films, including documentaries, features and shorts from around the world.

Films will be presented from noon to about 10 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. to about 10 p.m. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday at the Varsity, 166 E. Main St. Films also will be presented at noon, 3, 6 and 9 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m., noon, 3, 6 and 9 Saturday at the armory, 208 Oak St.

A free program of locally produced films will be presented at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the armory.

The gala opening night bash will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Ashland Springs Hotel, 212 E. Main St., and the awards celebration will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, at the armory.
