Ashland High School student Max Bloch-Kiss has been name Kiwanis Student of the Month for January.

Ashland High School student Max Bloch-Kiss has been named Kiwanis Student of the Month for January.

The son of Lee Bloch and Frank Kiss, Bloch-Kiss maintains a 3.84 grade-point average. He is taking advanced-placement calculus, advanced physics and has been highly involved in theater management all four years at AHS. Bloch-Kiss has been in the drama club and the International Thespian Society all four years. He was secretary-treasurer of the drama club in 2008 and 2009. He has also been in the Mu Alpha Theta Honors Society for two years and National Honors Society for three years.

Bloch-Kiss has volunteered at the AHS Theatre for more than 850 hours, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival for more than 120 hours, and Fresh Start for more than 130 hours.

Bloch-Kiss has been involved with theater all four years during his high school career. He has served in the roles of house manager, master electrician, assistant master electrician, spot operator, stage manager, assistant stage manager and assistant lighting designer for at least 10 theater shows during high school. He has also been a paid technician at the Mountain Avenue Theatre for four years, and he worked at OSF during the past three summer seasons.

Bloch-Kiss plans to attend Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. He wants to major in computer science and minor in software engineering.

A senior student from AHS is honored each month during the school year. Each Student of the Month receives an award certificate and a $50 savings bond. In May, two of the nine monthly winners for the school year will be further honored with a $1,000 college scholarship.
