L.A. Weekly calls Fishtank Ensemble "cross-pollinated gypsy music "¦. one of the most thrilling young acts on the planet."
Fishtank Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, at Havurah Shir Hadash, 185 N. Mountain Ave., Ashland.
Formed in 2005 and playing everywhere from the hippest clubs in Los Angeles to festivals and cultural centers across the country, Fishtank Ensemble includes four string players — who toss trombone, musical saw, accordion and banjolele into the musical mix — to tackle the hot jazz of France, gypsy ballads, flamenco and some original material.
Fishtank is putting the finishing touches on a new album to be released in April. The band's newest album is "Samurai Over Serbia" and serves up nearly cosmic gypsy music that showcases each member's skill and the range of vocalist Ursula Knudson.
Fishtank's first album, "Super Raoul," is a blend of up-tempo traditional and original music.
Tickets to the show at the Havurah cost $15, $10 for students and are free for children under the age of 12. Tickets are available at www.browntickets.com or at Music Coop in Ashland. For information, call 541-488-7716.
