Wulin Hanyun's Martial Arts and Chinese Folk Music Troupe: Craterian Performances and St. Mary's School will present an interactive show of Chinese martial arts and folk music at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford. The 26-member Wulin Hanyun troupe will feature 18 kinds of martial arts performances blended with Chinese folk and classical music. Admission is a suggested donation of $10. Kevin Gallagher: Classical and electric Guitarist Kevin R. Gallagher will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, in the Music Recital Hall on the Southern Oregon University campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. The New York-based guitarist and educator has earned prizes from the Guitar Foundation of America, the American String Teachers Association and the Artists International Competitions. He has four CDs to his credit, and his "Music from the Renaissance and Baroque" recorded by Naxos Records Guitar Recital was hailed as "one of the best" in 2000 by London's Classical Guitar Magazine. Gallagher also is leader and founder of the chamber rock quartet, Electric Kompany. Along with his concert, Gallagher will teach a master class at SOU and offer a presentation on new music and avant-pop music in New York City. SASSY!: "Stage and Screen Sing-along, Yeah," a monthly musical theater sing-along led by Laura Derocher and David Gabriel, will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, at Mountain Meadows Community Clubhouse, 857 Mountain Meadows Drive, Ashland. Darcy Danielson of the Oregon Cabaret Theatre will be the accompanist. The theme for the sing-along will be classic Broadway and film songs. The event is open to all ages. youth symphony of southern oregon: The symphony will hold its annual Concerto Competition at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, at the Music Recital Hall at Southern Oregon University, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. YSSO musicians will compete to perform as soloists during the symphony's Winter Concert Series in February. Excerpts from works by Tchaikovsky, Saint-SaŽns, Haydn, Stamitz, Quantz, Mendelssohn, Vaughan Williams, Accolay and others will be presented during the competition. Admission is free.
