Local law enforcement agencies will conduct a DUII saturation patrol in the city of Medford and other areas of Jackson County on Friday and Saturday.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department, Medford Police Department, Ashland Police Department, Talent Police Department and Phoenix Police Department will join forces to conduct high-visibility DUII saturation patrols.

These agencies will be teaming up throughout the year to catch impaired drivers in Jackson County. The goal of the joint agency DUII saturation is public safety on the roadway in Jackson County.

In 2008, 11,733 people died in fatal car crashes on U.S. highways. All these crashes involved a driver with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 percent or higher.

Local agencies believe high-visibility law enforcement will create a general deterrence — as perceived risk of being caught by law enforcement increases, the likelihood of impaired driving decreases.

Law enforcement agencies remind people to designate a sober driver or arrange for a sober ride home before beginning an evening of celebration and to remember that buzzed driving is drunk driving.
