The Southern Oregon University men's basketball team continued its hot start to the season with a 87-67 win over Simpson on Tuesday at McNeal Pavilion.

Justonn Smith led the Raiders with 15 points and seven rebounds. Drew Herrera had 14 points and seven assists, Roland Johnson and Chris Mackovjak both had 13 points and Humphrey Jackson finished with 11 points.

Simpson (1-8) was led by Jason Stubbs' game-high 19 points.

The Raiders took a 48-33 halftime lead after shooting 58 percent from the field in the first half. It was more of the same in the second half as the Raiders' lead ballooned.

SOU shot 57 percent in the second half and finished the game shooting

57 percent on 34 of 59 shooting from the field.

The Raiders return to action Friday and Saturday, when they host the annual Flagship Inn Invitational. Oregon Tech opens the tournament Friday at 5:30 p.m. against Willamette, and SOU takes on William Jessup at 7:30 p.m.

Tuamasaga to play in East Coast Bowl

SOU senior offensive lineman Buddy Tuamasaga has been selected to play in the annual East Coast Bowl.

The bowl is an all-star game that features elite NCAA Division I-FCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA college football players. The game will be played Saturday at Cameron Field in Petersburg, Va., and is sponsored by the City of Petersburg and the National Football Foundation.

Tuamasaga, a 6-foot-6, 310-pound lineman, started each game for the past two seasons after transferring from East Los Angeles Junior College.

Tuamsaga joins Western Oregon's Shaun Kauleinamoku as the only players from the West Coast invited to the game.
