"John and Candace Schweiger are the perfect recipients of Temple Emek Shalom's first Spirit of Giving Award," a press release from event organizers stated. "They truly bring this award to life, and it is with great love and appreciation that they are being honored.
Organizers cited John Schweiger's leadership with Southern Oregon University, including the Raiders Club and the SOU Foundation, as well as his work with the Ashland Independent Film Festival, Rotary and other charitable organizations as contributing factors in awarding the honor.
John Schweiger is chairman and C.E.O. of Coming Attractions, Inc., the largest independent theater company in the Northwest. In addition to supporting John in his charitable work, Candace Schweiger has done her own volunteering with SOU, local elementary schools and the Community Health Center, making her the ideal complement to John's passion for community.
"Both John and Candace have been extraordinarily generous and supportive of the work of Temple Emek Shalom in helping it to raise the funds that support its own programs as well as the contributions it makes each year to local non-profits serving needy children and adults," the press release stated. "For all these reasons, Temple Emek Shalom is privileged to pay tribute to John and Candace Schweiger."
