The Kiwanis Club of Ashland, in partnership with the Ashland Schools Foundation, is kicking off a new event to raise awareness of ASF and to raise money for the Ashland public schools.

The first annual Monster Dash Halloween Fun Run will be held Saturday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m., immediately before the children's Halloween parade in downtown Ashland.

There will be both a 5K run and a 1-mile fun-run/walk in Lithia Park ending on the Plaza in Ashland. Costumes are encouraged, and there will be awards for runners by age group and prizes for best costumes by individuals and groups.

Participants are advised to sign up by Oct. 16 to order a Monster Dash T-shirt and to get the best deal on registration.

For more information, or to register for either of the fun runs, go to www.AshlandKiwanisMonsterDash.com.

Proceeds will support ASF's Literacy and Libraries campaign for the 2009-10 school year.

To provide sponsorship for the event, make a donation, or if you have questions, call either Jeanne Walcher at 488-4897 or Susan Bacon of ASF at 482-8197.
