Southern Oregon's Vance Beach and Damilyn Tanner have been named All-Independent Players of the Week.

Beach, a junior wide receiver, took the offensive honors after catching eight balls for a career-best 145 yards and also scored on a 75-yard pass play as the Raiders fell to NCAA Division I Portland State.

Tanner, a senior defensive back, tied for the team lead with five tackles and also had an interception.

The Raiders (1-1) received votes in the this week's NAIA Top 25 poll for the second time in four years and return home Saturday to face Willamette at 3 p.m.

Women's Volleyball

Southern Oregon junior right-side hitter Leah Bergstrom has been named the Cascade Conference Hitter of the Week.

Bergstrom came away with 34 kills last weekend and only committed 10 errors. Bergstrom also had a hand in seven blocks as the No. 21 Raiders knocked off Eastern Oregon and fell to 11th-ranked College of Idaho in five games.

SOU (9-2, 3-1) hosts Northwest University Friday night and Evergreen State Saturday.
