A task force to protect structures was activated but released as firefighters brought the flames under control, officials said.

No cause has been determined yet for the fire, which ripped through heavy vegetation.

Jackson County Fire District No. 5, Medford Fire Department and Oregon Department of Forestry all sent crews to battle the blaze. They quickly set a line around the fire and are now mopping up hot spots, officials said.

Update 2:30 p.m.: The fire above Jackson Wellsprings is still smoldering, but fire crews seem to have the blaze under control.

A grass fire that started behind Jackson Wellsprings has triggered two alarms, calling out crews from Jackson County Fire District No. 5, Medford Fire Department and Oregon Department of Forestry.

The fire initially sent up a pillar of brown smoke, witnesses said.
