A family of four that was lost for about seven hours on Mount McLoughlin Thursday night were found early Friday morning by a Jackson County Sheriff's Search and Rescue team.

The family, Jim Brueggeman, his wife and two children, were unable to find the trail on their descent from a day hike up Mount McLoughlin.

Bruggeman called 9-1-1 from his cell phone, but his phone lost power before he could accurately describe his location.

Searchers on foot and horseback combed the mountainside while others patrolled the surrounding roads.

Brueggeman heard the sirens and followed the sound to Highway 140, where he caught a ride to the trailhead.

The Brueggemans were cold but in good condition. They were returned to their vehicle around 3:30 a.m. on Friday.
