The Ashland Intensity, Ashland's U-14 girls soccer team, beat a team from McMinnville and tied a team from Vancouver, Wash., to take first place in an Oregon Youth Soccer Classic Qualifying Tournament last weekend in Canby.

The solid performance earned the Intensity a Division I berth in the upcoming OYSA Fall League.

Ashland overcame an injury to starting central defender Makayla Scoggins to tie FC Salmon Creek Nemesis 95 of Vancouver 0-0, then scored two goals in the second half to beat the McMinnville Aftershock 2-0. Allie Halprin headed in Hannah Greenberg's corner kick to break the scoreless tie, and Facien Graham scored off her own rebound minutes later to complete the scoring.

The Intensity was one of four teams in the 29-team tournament that did not surrender a goal. The wins earned Ashland 12 games against some of the top clubs from the Eugene and Portland area.

The Intensity is coached by Ken Baker and Scott Wilson.
