Jackson County Fire District No. 3 crews rescued a 24-year-old man Thursday who had slid more than 200 feet into Crater Lake's caldera, officials said.

The man, whose identity and residence were not available, climbed into the caldera without permission and lost his footing.

District 3 crews rappelled into the caldera and lifted him to safety just after 2 p.m.

The man was not injured, officials said.

Moments after the rescue, the same District 3 crews were called to the other side of the lake to help a 69-year-old Georgia woman who reported feeling sick after hiking down the steep trail leading to the boat ramps off Cleetwood Cove.

Rescue crews placed the woman on a stretcher and hauled her to Rim Drive, where she reported feeling better.

She was able to leave Crater Lake without medical care, officials said.
