Jackie's half-brother eyed in kiddie porn scandal
  • In the aftermath of a Daily Tidings story revealing that police are investigating James Auchincloss for child pornography, the half-brother to the late Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis has resigned from the board of Oregon Stage Works, a theater official said Wednesday.
Auchincloss, 62, who pronounces his first name as if it were spelled Jamie, resigned at a board meeting on Tuesday — five days after the newspaper story was published — in order to "devote his time to taking care of his personal matters," said Peter Alzado, the theater's producing artistic director.
"We're stunned at the allegations," Alzado said Wednesday. "He's got a lot on his plate right now to deal with."
Auchincloss did not return phone messages seeking comment.
On Sunday, Auchincloss made an announcement about the investigation at Rogue Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Fourth Street, where he regularly attends services, said Ruth Wire, a longtime member of the church.
"He got up and he admitted everything Sunday and the people just rallied around him, hugging him, and it was just wonderful to see the support he had," Wire said.
A woman who answered the phone at the church confirmed that Auchincloss made an announcement Sunday. The church's minister, the Rev. Carolyn Colbert, declined to comment on the matter.
While Auchincloss may not have directly admitted to looking at child pornography, "everybody knew what he meant" when he stood up to talk about the issue, Wire said. "It's been hanging over his head since he's been apprehended (when his belongings and home were searched in October)."
Wire said Auchincloss announced that he planned to spend time on the East Coast with family in the coming days.
Officials at the Ashland Family YMCA, where Auchincloss has been a member, referred calls to the gym's executive director, Lisa Molnar, who is out of the office until Friday and could not be reached for comment.
Meanwhile, Eagle Point resident Dennis Vickoren, described as a friend of Auchincloss' by police and as someone they are also investigating for child porn, has likewise experienced fallout from the news story.
Vickoren, 57, is under investigation at Rogue Valley Transportation District, where he works as a bus driver and was involved in a program that taught elementary school children to ride the RVTD buses, said Julie Brown, RVTD general manager. All of the bus drivers at RVTD are involved in the "Gus Rides the Bus" program and they are never alone with the children, she said.
Because of the ongoing investigation, Vickoren is "not driving (buses) at this time," Brown said, declining to elaborate on whether Vickoren had been suspended.
Vickoren also did not return phone messages seeking comment.
In Ashland, Rogue Valley Community Television executives believe Vickoren will continue to produce and direct "Wilde Life," a show about gay issues on the network, said Nena Heitz, RVTV director and administrative manager.
"Since he has not been arrested or indicted or anything, as a citizen has a right to have his program on the air," Heitz said. "As far as this relationship (between RVTV and Vickoren), nothing has changed."
