A seventh grader at Ashland Middle School has been invited to one of the most prestigious football camps in the nation.

Danial White, the starting quarterback on two Ashland Pop Warner state championship teams, was selected to join the region's other top youth signal callers at the DeBartolo Fab 50 Camp, Aug. 1-2 at Los Angeles, Calif.

White will compete against other quarterbacks in one-on-one drills, seven-on-seven games and other position specific competitions. Afterward, the camp will name the top 50 football players in each region, a list which will be featured on ESPN.com.

The camp has attracted a long list of eventual stars. Alumni include Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and Arizona Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart.

White helped Ashland capture the Junior Pee Wee state championship in 2006 and the Pee Wee state championship in 2007 at Autzen Stadium in Eugene. He also plays basketball and is one of the top sprinters on the AMS seventh-grade track and field team.

White is the son of Greg and Llona White. Greg White is a former Ashland High quarterback.
