For the Tidings

Brides-to-be can get something old and something new in the same dress on Saturday at the Southern Oregon Goodwill store in Medford. The secondhand store at 1241 Riverside Ave. will have more than 50 wedding gowns, along with other wedding attire and accessories, as part of a bridal event to be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The tough economic times might put a pinch on most wedding budgets, but the Goodwill offerings will give women a chance to find affordable — and attractive — wedding gowns.

"We have wedding gowns in an array of colors and styles that vary from simple and chic to elaborately embroidered and beaded," said Diane Raymond, Southern Oregon Goodwill marketing manager. "They are just beautiful."

A few of the donated gowns are new, including dresses from David's Bridal and Alfred Angelo. But they are all priced for brides on a budget, ranging from $29.99 to $99.99.

The bridal event also will include a selection of bridesmaid dresses, mother-of-the-bride suits and dresses and flower-girl clothing. Accessories such as bridal shoes and handbags also will be available.

The event will include presentations and information from local wedding item suppliers, including photography, catering and banquet, flowers and bridal bouquets. Cake samples and a free makeup demonstration also will be provided.

"It's an opportunity to have a beautiful wedding during difficult times," Raymond said. "Every woman deserves to have her wedding dreams come true."

Raymond said the tougher economic times made this event a natural for Goodwill to organize.

"Our 'Something Old ... Something New' theme reminds the community of the importance of their donations and what a wonderful difference their donation can make in someone's life," Raymond said.

Proceeds from the bridal sale will help fund Goodwill programs and services. The store will remain open to all shoppers during the event.
