A new barbershop is set to open in Ashland, the city is featured in a national magazine and an Ashland distiller wins awards in this week's Business Briefs.

Morgan Hoover will open a barbershop on May 5 at 1648 Ashland St., in the Ashland Street Cinemas shopping center, where Haircutting for Men was located before it recently closed. Morgan's Barbershop will offer $13 haircuts, with discounts for seniors, college students and military personnel. The shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Hoover said he is a third-generation barber with 10 years of experience.

Ashland is featured in the May issue of Country Living magazine. Ashland residents Jennifer Bright and Laurel Walter created a list of their 10 favorite places in and near Ashland for the magazine's travel section. Bright and Walter own Twist, an interior-styling business based in Ashland.

Ashland micro-distillery Cascade Peak Spirits won two silver medals at the 2009 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, the largest professional taste-off of its kind in America, held March 21 and 22.
