PORTLAND — The Southern Oregon softball team split with Concordia on Saturday, winning the opener 1-0 before falling 4-2 in Game 2.
The Raiders (16-13, 12-4 CC) are a half-game back of the College of Idaho for first place in the conference standings and improved to 3-1 against Concordia, the preseason favorites.
In Game 1, the two teams were scoreless until the Raiders finally broke through in the sixth. Senior Strohm Fouty reached on an error and then moved to second on a sac bunt by Ricci Coultas and scored on back-to-back singles by Meghan Laughlin and Jordyn Kurtz.
In Game 2, SOU got on the board in the fourth on Kathryn Moy's first career home run. The Cavs bounced right back and scored three in the bottom of the frame and then added an insurance run in the sixth.
Track and Field
The California team of Chico State and Humboldt State defeated the Oregon team of Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech in the Oregon/California Challenge on Saturdya at Raider Stadium.
The California men defeated Oregon 378-218, and the California women won 322-268. The top two members of each institution scored points toward each "state" team.
Southern Oregon won four events during the day and had two NAIA qualifying marks.
Senior Cameron Kreuz claimed victory in the 800 with an NAIA automatic qualifying mark of 1:53.75.
Junior Antwun Baker scored a pair of victories in the 100 and 200 and earned his first NAIA qualifying mark.
Baker earned his NAIA mark in the 200 with a winning time of 21.94. Baker also won the 100 in 10.90.
SOU's David Laney won the 5,000 with a time of 15:32.81.
Charlie Sebrell and Garrett Tygerson pitched back-to-back gems, and Ashland's offense flourished and ended both games in five innings 15-0 and 19-2 Saturday at Klamath Falls.
Sebrell pitched four innings and threw a one-hitter in the opener. Nick Hall went 3-for-3 with a three-run home run and a triple for five RBIs and three runs scored.
Keali Cecil was 3-for-4 and added a two-run homer for the Grizzlies (10-3, 5-1). Also in the opener, Tygerson went 3-for-3 and Hayden Miller was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.
In the nightcap, Tygerson racked up eight strikeouts in just four innings and allowed two runs. He also went 2-for-4 and drove in four runs.
Luke Baldrica had six RBIs while going 4-for-5 for the Grizzlies. Hayden Miller was 3-for-3 and Ian Kendall 2-for-2 with three RBIs.

Ashland defeated North Eugene and Springfield by 8-0 margins Saturday at Eugene.
The Grizzlies are 6-6-1 overall and 3-1 in District 4.
