Five Ashland Elementary School children were recognized at a recent lunch meeting of Soroptimist International of Ashland for their entries in a Live Your Dreams poster contest.

Kyle Weinberg and Karen Bach of Bellview Elementary School, Kadyn Marker-Hamer and Ellie Carter of Helman Elementary School and Myla Norvell of Willow Wind Community Learning Center were recognized with Live Your Dream pins and certificates.

The contest, sponsored by Soroptimist International of the Americas, drew 4,300 entries and was designed to promote International Women's Day.

Children grades K-12 drew pictures of a woman who inspired them and wrote in 50 words or less what made her inspirational.

While the contest was international in scope, Ashland elementary schools were asked to send student entries to the Ashland club for local recognition before they were sent on to participate in the larger contest.

Soroptimists Erin Wahl, Wendy Ray, Judy Faulkner, Vicki Smith and Sara Brown chose the local winners.

Soroptimist is an international volunteer organization for business and professional women whose mission is to improve the lives of women and girls locally and globally.
