Local roundup: From middle school to college, Ashland athletes receive honors.

Two Ashland Middle School wrestlers won district titles and performed well at state and regional meets recently.

Eighth-grader Lane Augustson, a heavyweight, took second in the regional tournament and fourth at state in the heavyweight division after claiming the district title with three straight wins. He led 3-1 in the state semifinals before a late takedown forced overtime.

AMS seventh-grader Mason Montgomery, wrestling in the 165-pound division, also won all three of his matches at districts before taking fourth at regionals and going 1-2 at state.

College Track

Southern Oregon senior distance runner Cameron Kreuz has been named the Cascade Conference's track Athlete of the Week.

This marks the second straight week an SOU athlete has received the conference honor.

Kreuz won the 800 at Saturday's Northwest Conference Preview at Forest Grove with an NAIA Provisional Qualifying time of 1:54.80. Kreuz was an All-American in Cross Country in the Fall and helped the Raiders to a fourth place finish at the National Championships.

Women's Basketball

Southern Oregon junior guard Whitney Scott has been named NAIA Division II Daktronics Scholar-Athlete.

Scott is one of 204 individuals to receive the honor. To be eligible, student-athletes must be nominated by their head coach, have achieved junior academic status and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5.

Scott earned All-Cascade Conference honors this past season after averaging 13.3 points and helping the Raiders advance to the NAIA National Tournament.
