EUGENE — Cameron McCaffery scored 30 points and the Century Jaguars took an early lead and defeated Crater 59-46 in the opening round of the Class 5A boys basketball tournament at McArthur Court.

Crater (17-8) turned the ball over four times in its first seven possessions before scoring its first points of the game on a drive by Josh Lokeno with 3:35 seconds left in the first quarter.

The Jaguars (21-7) led 23-5 after the first quarter and 32-15 at halftime on 60 percent shooting from the field despite shooting two fewer attempts than Crater, which was 6-for-22 in the first half.

Even as Crater shot 48 percent in the second half, Century cruised behind point guard McCaffery, the Northwest Oregon Conference player of the year, who was 10-of-16 from the field and added four rebounds and assists.

Wilsonville 51, Churchill 41

Wilsonville freshman guard Kevin Marshall scored 17 points and the Wildcats held on to beat Churchill in the opening round of the OSAA Class 5A boys tournament at McArthur Court.

After Churchill scored the game's first basket, Wilsonville (25-2) never let go of the lead for the rest of the game and led by as many as 19 points in the second quarter.

The Lancers (20-6) scored in the single digits in the first two quarters and fell behind 29-12 at the half, but went on a 12-0 run and held Wilsonville scoreless for a stretch of 3:41 that spanned the third and fourth quarters.

Churchill cut the lead to 36-30 on a fast break layup by Sam Graham by a midcourt steal.

Marshall countered with nine points after Wilsonville's scoring drought to push his team into Friday's semifinals.

North Eugene 52, Crescent Valley 45

Joe Kammerer scored 14 points and had a game-high eight rebounds as North Eugene beat Crescent Valley in the opening round of the OSAA Class 5A boys tournament at McArthur Court.

North Eugene (14-13) advances to its second state semifinal in three seasons with the win.

After falling behind 9-1 in the game's first four minutes, Crescent Valley tied the game at halftime with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Jonathan Bosch that tied the score at 23.

The Raiders (16-10) held the lead for nearly the next 14 minutes until North Eugene freshman guard Demerick Taylor made a three-pointer from the top of the key with 2:07 left in the game that put his team ahead 47-45.

Colton Kelsey, who led the Raiders with 14 points, made the team's last field goal on a layup with 2:29 left in the game that also gave them their last lead at 45-44.

Jefferson 75, Hillsboro 58

Terrence Jones had 22 points and 13 rebounds and No. 1 Jefferson defeated No. 6 Hillsboro in a quarterfinal game at the OSAA Class 5A boys tournament at McArthur Court.

Tyrone Phillips added 15 points for the Democrats (17-6), the defending champions, who will play in the semifinals on Friday against either Crescent Valley or North Eugene.

Jones, the PIL player of the year, was 6-for-15 from the field overall and 7-for-8 from the free-throw line in the second half.

The only time Jefferson trailed was before opening tip, when Drew Perry made two free throws for the Spartans (19-7) after a technical foul was called on the Democrats for not reporting the starting lineup.

But 32 seconds into the game, Jones drained a 3-pointer to put Jefferson up 3-2 and the Demos rolled from there.

Brett Ball scored 15 to lead Hillsboro.
