The Jackson County Sheriffs Department is working to identify the remains of a person found in the area of Lower Table Rock Trail.

The skeletal remains were found at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday by hikers in the Lower Table Rock Trail area. The hikers had apparently been in the area looking for wildlife photography opportunities, according to officials.

Sheriff's Deputies responded to the location and found skeletal remains that had been at that location for an extended period. There was clothing on the remains, and evidence was consistent with the subject falling from the upper portions of the Lower Table Rock. Evidence at the scene indicated that this was an accidental death.

Sheriff's investigators are currently working to identify the victim. Access to this area was extremely hazardous and the transport of investigators to and from the scene as well as removal of the victim required the use of the Sheriff's Office helicopter.
