The first day of the Ashland Rotary Hoop Classic has been cancelled after five of the six teams scheduled to play here decided against traveling in the snow today.

The revamped schedule, which originally featured eight teams playing today and Saturday, has been whittled to just two games Saturday: the Ashland girls will face South Medford at noon and the Ashland boys are tentatively scheduled to have a rematch with North Medford at 2 p.m. Both games will be played at McNeal Pavilion.

The North Medford boys are scheduled to travel to Lake Oswego today for a game against Lakeridge. If that game is called off, it would free up the Tornado to face the Grizzlies Saturday.

Admission to both games is free, although canned food donations are requested.

A winter storm Thursday dumped six inches of snow on Ashland.
