RENO, Nev. — Freshman wrestler Mitchell Lofstedt recorded a top-eight finish to highlight Southern Oregon University's performance in the Tournament of Champions Thursday.

The Raiders placed 24th among 30 teams, and all of their individual losses were to NCAA Division I competitors.

Lofstedt, ranked seventh in the NAIA, had a 5-2 record at 125 pounds. He made it into the top eight by riding out Boise State's Alan Bartelli for an overtime win. They were tied 1-1 through regulation.

"He showed pretty good composure for a freshman," said Raiders coach Mike Ritchey. "He never panicked. I thought it was a heck of a performance in that situation."

Four other SOU wrestlers posted 2-2 records: Trevor Lofstedt at 133, Barry Johnson at 141, Seth Roy at 149 and John Bates at heavyweight.
