MOUNT SHASTA, Calif. — A banged up Ashland boys basketball team ran out of steam in the second half and lost to Pleasant Valley of Chico, Calif., 61-38, Friday in the second round of the Harlan Carter Tournament at Shasta High School.

The Grizzlies (1-2) were without post Talon Haggard, who injured his left shoulder the night before and returned home to Ashland. Point guard Adam Pavlich suffered a hip injury Thursday, and tried to play in the second half Friday but had to come out quickly.

The Grizzlies trailed only 30-24 at halftime but were outscored 19-2 in the third quarter.

"We were doing all right in the first half," said coach Larry Kellems. "We just didn't have it in the second half. Mentally, I think we were all feeling it. Talon wasn't there and we didn't have Adam and we just kind of went sideways."

Haggard's status remains uncertain. He's scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday.

Garrett Tygerson and Mason Costantino each scored nine points for the Grizzlies.
